17 officers of the Greek Coast Guard are being brought in for questioning over the Pylos crime, vindicating the courageous complaints of the survivors of the Pylos shipwreck. These led to the conclusion of the Ombudsman for the guilt of those who organized the operation to deter instead of rescue the Adriana on 14 June 2023, leading to the death of more than 600 refugees.
It is a success of the persistent struggles of the solidarity movement, the lawyers who support them but above all of the dynamic mobilizations of the trade unions, student associations, solidarity movements and artists who demanded that the murderers go to the Maritime Court. It is the movement that prevented the government from blaming the crime on nine Egyptian survivors by dubbing them traffickers. It is the movement that united the voices of the Tempi and Pylos relatives on March 22 for justice.
On 14 June 2023, the Coast Guard caused the sinking of the ship Adriana off Pylos with 750 refugees crammed in the holds and on deck. 104 survived and 82 bodies were found. More than 600 refugees are still at the bottom of the sea today, the deepest point in the Mediterranean. It was the biggest racist crime at the EU's border fortress. It was mass murder, an organized crime by the government and the coastguard.
Despite warnings from the Italian authorities and FRONTEX that the ship had been in distress for over 15 hours, the Coastguard watched it with one of its ships, capable of pursuits but not rescues, without even the necessary life jackets.  The Coast Guard and the Government even gave orders for the departure of adjacent ships sent for assistance and then in the darkness, instead of a rescue operation, they proceeded to deter.  Their aim was to drive the Adriana out of Greek waters, so they tied it up with rope despite appeals from the refugees themselves for immediate assistance. The violent tow led to the sinking, spreading death and despair to the families of hundreds of people in Pakistan, Syria, Egypt and Palestine. To date, the families have not received the bodies of their loved ones while the government has ruled out raising the Adriana.
This crime was the fruit of the closed border policy of murderous pushbacks, which has led to the deaths of over 40,000 refugees in the last 10 years in the Mediterranean. This is the choice of the government and the Coast Guard, which implemented it in Pylos and continues with new crimes in Rhodes, Kos and Samos. It is attacking refugee boats, cutting them to pieces. If a few European rich tourists were in danger, they would have been rescued in the first place!
It is time for them to be held accountable and for the trial to proceed to the Maritime Court with the conviction of the murderers of Pylos.
We will not let the murderers of Tempi and Pylos cover up their crimes. We will not let them continue to provoke by escalating racism, by measures against undocumented migrants, such as imprisonment for two years, or by throwing refugees into the street, interrupting hospitality in structures.
Voridis, Kikilias and Chrysochoidis are stepping forward to divert the public anger that peaked on 28 February and turn it into hatred for migrants and refugees, thus paving the way for the far right and the fascists.  A government that on the one hand gives 23 billion for armaments and on the other dismantles public education and health, attacks the trade unions by sacking Mr Genidounia and the teachers who are resisting, while targeting students and pupils, promoting reformatories and expulsions.
On 22 March, at , the relatives of the victims of Tempi and Pylos united their voices for the murderers to go to prison.
On 21 June, two years after the crime of Pylos, we will be at Syntagma. Lets to make the cry of the hundreds of families, those  who mourn their children and the survivors who demand justice to be listened loudly. Lets stand up to crush the attacks of Voridis against migrants. To pave the way for a society that does not suffocate or bog down!
