Open Meeting
to organize the mobilization against refugee evictions and the government’s racist campaign
Thursday, June 11, 7pm, at the roof of 47 Aiolou str.
With the inspiration and rage of the US’s uprise against racism, following the murder of George Floyd, we fight against Trump’s friends in Greece: Mitsotakis and Mitarakis.
We have started the fight against the evictions, which Mitarakis stated will begin in June 2020, of 11000 refugees from the camps and the ESTIA apartments. We will not allow them to move forward with this disgrace, by kicking thousands of families, single women and disabled people out in the streets and parks, and take children away from their schools. Instead of assimilating them in our society, without social and racist prejudice, teaching them Greek, and offering them access to work and housing, Mitarakis is attempting to unfold a refugee extermination plan, building new concentration camps on islands and in the mainland, and throwing refugees out in the streets.
At the same time, he stops the refugees’ allowance from the first month they are granted asylum, while the asylum seekers will only be able to buy products from super markets, instead of getting an allowance.
The refugees are fighting for a house for their family, not for evictions. The solidarity movement demands that the municipalities provide housing for all: refugees, Roma and homeless people.
The government used the CoViD-19 pandemic to spill its poison against the refugees. They held thousands inside closed camps, with no sanitary provision, instead of evacuating the camps and giving houses to everyone. Meanwhile, their access to healthcare is getting even more difficult, with the abolition of the granting of AMKA (Social Security Number).
The government is trying to escalate its racist campaign, with Police “sweeps” of immigrants without papers, the expansion of Evros’ wall, illegal deportations through a parastatal mechanism, with a mock asylum granting process, for which the conditions for asylum qualification have become unreachable.
Now is the time to be heard, for the workers’ movement, the youth, the solidarity to those fleeing wars, hunger, dictatorships and climate change.
KEERFA, along with refugee committees from the camps, is calling the immigrant communities, the workers’ and students’ unions, people of science and art, solidarity movements, women’s and LGBT+ movements, environmental movements and municipal parties to an open meeting, to organize two days of action, June 26-27, featuring an anti-racist demonstration on Friday, June 26, at Syntagma, and a big festival on Saturday, June 27.
Called by KEERFA - Movement ‘United Against Racism and the Fascist Threat’, Refugee Committees from the camps, the Pakistan Community of Greece ‘Unity’, the Cameroon Community of Greece, people of science and art, municipal parties, unions.

The government that detained thousands of refugees in all its Morias and Amygdalezas, is cynically ignoring the danger of CoViD-19’s spreading through the dangerously congested camps. The solidarity movement, along with unions and municipal parties, the international movements, Amnesty International and Doctors Without Borders urgently demand the evacuation of the camps.
The government is voting harsher laws regarding the asylum, courting its far-right audience, but they are weak. They were forced to take back their decision to create two new, closed camps, at Malakasa (outside Athens) and Kleidi (Serres), and to freeze the asylum application processes.
There is an alternative: To transfer the refugees to hotels that are not in business, as well as houses. The Ministry of Labour has publicly owned hotels and houses that can be used immediately.
Join us on our event, that will be streamed live, via KEERFA's Facebook page!
“Crowding and inhumane living conditions inside the refugee camps on the Greek islands are the ideal factors for the spread of the Coronavirus epidemic” warn the Doctors Without Borders, in a recent announcement. And yet, the Greek government wastes millions to hire border patrols for keeping the borders of Evros sealed and pushing back boats arriving to the islands, and to imprison refugees with fences around the camps and the hiring of security companies. Meanwhile, they do not bother to hire doctors and nurses to upgrade the public health system, which is the only shield protecting the poor from the virus. For the asylum seekers, the migrants and refugees from the camps to the strawberry fields of Manolada, it is impossible to maintain even the most basic preventive measures, such as frequent hand washing, proper ventilation of closed spaces and frequent cleaning with disinfectants and cleaning products. Instead, in most camps, there are dozens of families living in tents, unable to enroll into programs for housing, social support and healthcare. Communicating with the 24hour Helpline of the National Public Health Organization, as the Ministry of health suggests, is obviously impossible for people living piled inside the concentration camps of shame. It is outrageously racist of the government to claim/pretend that the fast-tracked building of closed holding facilities, such as the ones at Kleidi, Serres and the Gerakini military camp at Malakasa, will act as a deterrent to the spread of the Coronavirus. As if the refugees were to blame for the pandemic. In reality, new closed holding facilities equal only to new death traps for the refugees, along with Amygdaleza, Corinth and Paranesti. We will not allow it! Public Health is NOT a personal responsibility, and above all is NOT a privilege of the few. To save our Public Health, and to put the lives of locals and migrants above their profits, we demand: Closing of the camps of shame, and transport of all refugees - documented and undocumented - to houses and hotels within the cities, with responsibility of the public and municipal care structures, along with mass hires of permanent staff. Free access to hospitals and all public sector services for everyone.

Statement from Greek anti-racists: Protect refugees from coronavirus, March 14, 2020
KEERFA, the Movement United Against Racism and the Fascist Threat in Greece, has issued the statement below calling on the government to immediately transfer refugees and asylum seekers to safety in order to prevent a major health emergency in the detention camps.
Protesters in Greece carry signs reading “close down the concentration camps”
‣ Measures to protect refugees now!
‣ Shut down the concentration camps on the islands and the mainland immediately, to prevent the spread of coronavirus and limit the number of infections!
The overcrowding and miserable living conditions at refugee camps in the Greek islands are ideal conditions for the spread of the coronavirus epidemic, Doctors Without Borders warned in a recent statement. People’s health is in danger as long as they stay in these camps. The coronavirus is just the latest threat asylum seekers face, and their conditions makes them even more vulnerable than the rest of the population to an epidemic.
The need to evacuate camps in the Greek islands is now more urgent than ever. Forcing people to live in these conditions as part of a European policy has always been irresponsible, but now it is also on the verge of becoming criminal if no measures are taken to protect people. Doctors Without Borders says that the Greek government must act as quickly as possible and move the majority of the 42,000 people to suitable housing before it is too late.
Solidarity to refugees action in Warsaw Against the closure of the Greek-Turkish borders
Anout 100 people picketed the European Commission offices in Warsaw tonight against the brutality on the Greek-Turkish border. The Polish government has announced it is willing to send 100 police and 100 border guards to “protect Europe”. Among the slogans were “Solidarity with the refugees”, “Open the borders” and “Not in our name”. Lots of people took leaflets and posters for March 21.
Thousands were on the Women’s Day demonstration yesterday. It was saturated with leaflets for M21 and posters were given out as well.
Ten towns and cities in Poland are now definitely having a demonstration or some kind of action on M21.
We have translated the press release into Polish. It was accepted unanimously that we should sign it.

Antifascist demonstration, Saturday 21st of December, Athens, Propylaia 2pm, Thsessaloniki, Kamara 2pm
No to the state prosecutor's proposal for the acquittal of the Golden Dawn. Prison for the Neo-Nazi assassins.
Demonstration called by: KEERFA (Movement United Against Racism and the Fascist Threat), Egyptian fishermen's lawyers in the Golden Dawn trial, Pakistani Community of Greece "Unity", Muslim Community of Greece, Egyptian Community, unions, and collectives.
The prosecutor's proposal in the Golden Dawn trial in support of acquitting the Golden Dawn neo-Nazis from the charge of running and joining a criminal organization is a scandalous concealment of neo-Nazis' murderous attacks. It is a pardon for their crimes.
It revealed the unbreakable and long-standing bonds of protection and immunity Golden Dawn receives by the state and it's access to the prosecution, the judiciary and the police.
But it has also brought to light the tactics of the New Democracy government itself, which is trying to bring Golden Dawn back into the political arena in conditions where it is openly playing the card of racism and "law and order."
The proposal to only condemn Rupakias (the murderer of Pavlos Fyssas) and acquit all of the assault squads and collaborators launched by the local Golden Dawn offices in Nikaia is a scandalous attempt to cover up the neo-Nazis' murderous activities. It lets off the hook also the Golden Dawn leadership by disregarding the evidence of communications on the night of the Fyssas assassination between local Golden Dawn boss Lagos( now EMP) and the leader of Golden Dawn Michaloliakos. Correspondingly, the prosecutor suggested that the neo-nazis should be let off lightly for the brutal and murderous attacks on the Egyptian fishermen by converting the charge of attempted homicide into serious intentional bodily harm! The same approach of downgrading of the charges was also followed regarding the murderous attacks on the communist trade unionists of PAME.
The possible adoption of the prosecution's proposal by the court will transform the trial into the largest white-washing of Nazi crimes since the trial of Nuremberg. It will be a step in the legalization of murderous fascist violence and the scandalous cooperation of Golden Dawn and the Greek Police, paving the way for fascists to return to the streets again, taking advantage of the racist campaign of the New Democracy government.
The anti-fascist movement fought to bring Michaloliakos' neo-Nazis into the stand, to put an end to the onslaught of raids from their offices, we succeded to kick them out of the parliament. It is time to step up action to prevent the neo-Nazis from being let off lightly.
The major international mobilization on March 21 against racism and fascism is ahead. Until then, we will be constantly besieging the courthouse so they feel the rage and power of the great democratic majority, to shut down any attempt of the government and state apparatus to bring the nazis back to the streets and into the political life and so that the murderers go to jail.
We start on Saturday December 21st with immediate mobilizations and we will besiege the Court until the day of the conviction!

KEERFA – MOVEMENT “UNITED AGAINT RACISM AND THE FASCIST THREAT”
Pan-Hellenic Assembly and International Meeting Against Fascism and Racism
Athens, October 12 2019, Law School of Athens (Nomiki), Solonos str.

The antifascist movement with its strength, persistence, long and systematic activity, managed to kick the neonazi murderers of Golden Dawn out of the Parliament, in the elections of July 7. Now, the members of Golden Dawn who are in trial, are making their final defending statements for their hideous crimes, the murder of Pavlos Fyssas and Shehzad Luqman, the racist and fascist attacks against immigrants, trade unionists and members of movements, no longer wearing the mantle of an elected political party, and with the prison’s door open and waiting.
We do not rest, before the internal crisis that Golden Dawn is facing. Instead, we escalate our actions, to make sure that they will not get off lightly, and that all their bases of operations, disguised as offices, will be closed down for good.
We move forward with demonstrations for the 6 years since the murder of Pavlos Fyssas, at Keratsini, on 18 September.
We continue with demonstrations at the courtrooms, on the day of Mihaloliakos’ defending statement, which must signal a moment of uprising in workspaces, schools and universities.
We turn our backs on the Prime Minister Mitsotakis, and the party of New Democracy, who pretend to be the castigators of Golden Dawn, and those who allegedly stopped their rise. They are those same who, with Foreign Minister Dendias’ racist policy, 2012’s “Xenios Zeus” operation, paved the way for them, while the police, and ND itself through their general secretary Baltakos, co-operated with them, and covered their crimes.
We have managed to destroy the machinations that covered them, and collide with racist policies, which continued during the time of SYRIZA-ANEL’s government, that materialized the disgraceful agreement between Turkey and the EU. Those racist policies, and with the nationalistic hysteria concerning Macedonia’s name, brought forward the fascist construct of Velopoulos’ party, which the antifascist movement is already taking action to isolate.
Furthermore, we are facing the battle against the escalation of racist offensives announced by Mitsotakis, Chrisichoidis (Minister of Citizen Protection) and Koumoutsakos (Alternate Citizen's Protection Minister for Migration). Those who want to fortify racist policies, by moving the Ministry for Migration to the Ministry of Public Order, as if to send a message that being a refugee or a migrant is a crime (but if you are rich, you can always buy a Golden Visa!).
They threaten to fill the country with concentration camps, such as Amygdaleza, unleash the sweeping operations of the Hellenic Police, seal the borders, and move forward with deportations, reinforcing the illegal deportations implemented by paramilitary groups operating at the border of Evros, by the fence of shame.
The antifascist movement that kicked the neo-Nazis out of the Parliament, along with the movement of solidarity to the refugees, has the power to ruin their plans. Through the international coordination of the movement, we showed that we can block their rise in Europe and the US. They never managed to turn Trump’s example to a triumphant rise of the far right, even though they made some threatening steps forward, in countries of Eastern Europe, in Italy and France. In Austria, the governing coalition with the far right fell apart. The outburst of solidarity towards Captain Carola Rakete, who insisted on rescuing the refugees, against those policies that turn the Mediterranean into a wet grave of women and children, also showed the movement’s power. March 16th’s International Day of Action showed us the possibilities of an international coordination of the movement.
United, we soldier on in the battle against the neo-Nazis of Golden Dawn, as the trial of Pavlos Fyssas’ and Shehzad Luqman’s murderers nears its end. It is time for them to go to jail, and for all their bases of operation to be closed down forever. In the battle to tear down the walls of the fortress Europe, the battle for open borders, asylum and housing for the refugees, for their access to schools and hospitals, and against the abolition of issuing of Social Security Numbers for them. The battle for equal rights for all migrants, against those who want them to live as slaves in every boss’s own Manolada.
The fight against fascism, racism, islamophobia, anti-Semitism and sexism is a priority for the workers and students’ movement, which is also facing austerity and government cuts, and aggressive “law and order” policies such as the abolition of the academic asylum.
We invite you to join and support the Pan-Hellenic Assembly and International Meeting, on October 12, in Athens. To send over delegates of your union, students’ organization, movement or collective. Already joining us are representatives from the USA, the UK, Germany, Spain, France, Cyprus and more. This will be a big step forward in the organization of the antifascist and antiracist movements, and the international coordination.
KEERFA Press Release(Movement United Against Racism and the Fascist Threat):
Golden Dawn Finally out of Parliament and facing Prison's wide open doors!
Golden Dawn is finally out of parliament, with the prison doors facing them wide open! The expulsion of Golden Dawn from Parliament, after entering it in 2012, is a hopeful message with an international dimension. We are happy because this marks the beginning of the end of Golden Dawn, the "seeds of those who were defeated in 1945", (as the leader of Golden Dawn Mihaloliakos was recorded as referring to Golden Dawn in a meeting). It is a great victory for the massive, unified, persistent, long-lasting and systematic action of thousands of militants of the anti-fascist and anti-racist movement that led the Neo-Nazi suspects to complete isolation in the neighbourhoods all over the country. The struggle for the Golden Dawn trial to start and proceed, in order to prosecute the murderers of Pavlos Fyssas and Shahzad Luqman in order to find guilty all the paramilitary machinery, the leadership, and the executives of stormtroopers that mascarade as a "the political party". The trial's completion paves the way for ending the tolerance of the presence of the Golden Dawn fascists by the state and its mechanisms. There have been
some great stations in this movement. The battles that were given in every neighborhood against the fascists and the racist attacks, against the pogroms on immigrants and refugees, the defense of the right of refugees to attend school, the struggle against the nationalist hysteria and the rallies over Macedonia, the struggle of POSPERT (Public Broadcast Workers Union) against giving a platform to the fascists in the media, the battle not to give in the municipal councils a platform for Golden Dawn, the international anti-fascist demonstrations on March 16th and on the anniversary of the assassination of Pavlos Fyssas every year. As well as the repeated demonstrations outside the Golden Dawn trial itself. KEERFA, ten years after it was founded, celebrates the smashing of the presence of Golden Dawn in Parliament. But we have to stress that there can be no complacency because we are not done with the fascist threat. We are not finished with Golden Dawn, nor with the fascistoid Velopulos who snuck into Parliament. But we are confident that we can smash them with a mass movement that will close all their offices that are being used as forts for the staging of attacks, from their central office at Mesogeion Avenue to the few remaining in some neighbourhoods. We have to confront the racist policies that have paved their way and the concentration camps. These policies stir up rage in Europe, while in the Mediterranean, Salvini prohibits ships rescuing refugees from docking in Italian ports and imprisons captains who save them.It is time to escalate the anti-fascist organizing to crush the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn killers.
