march campsStatement from Greek anti-racists: Protect refugees from coronavirus, March 14, 2020

KEERFA, the Movement United Against Racism and the Fascist Threat in Greece, has issued the statement below calling on the government to immediately transfer refugees and asylum seekers to safety in order to prevent a major health emergency in the detention camps.
Protesters in Greece carry signs reading “close down the concentration camps”
‣ Measures to protect refugees now!
‣ Shut down the concentration camps on the islands and the mainland immediately, to prevent the spread of coronavirus and limit the number of infections!

The overcrowding and miserable living conditions at refugee camps in the Greek islands are ideal conditions for the spread of the coronavirus epidemic, Doctors Without Borders warned in a recent statement. People’s health is in danger as long as they stay in these camps. The coronavirus is just the latest threat asylum seekers face, and their conditions makes them even more vulnerable than the rest of the population to an epidemic.

The need to evacuate camps in the Greek islands is now more urgent than ever. Forcing people to live in these conditions as part of a European policy has always been irresponsible, but now it is also on the verge of becoming criminal if no measures are taken to protect people. Doctors Without Borders says that the Greek government must act as quickly as possible and move the majority of the 42,000 people to suitable housing before it is too late.

warsaw 1Solidarity to refugees action in Warsaw Against the closure of the Greek-Turkish borders

Anout 100 people picketed the European Commission offices in Warsaw tonight against the brutality on the Greek-Turkish border. The Polish government has announced it is willing to send 100 police and 100 border guards to “protect Europe”. Among the slogans were “Solidarity with the refugees”, “Open the borders” and “Not in our name”. Lots of people took leaflets and posters for March 21.

Thousands were on the Women’s Day demonstration yesterday. It was saturated with leaflets for M21 and posters were given out as well.

Ten towns and cities in Poland are now definitely having a demonstration or some kind of action on M21.

We have translated the press release into Polish. It was accepted unanimously that we should sign it.

No to the state prosecutor's proposal for the acquittal of the Golden Dawn. Prison for the Neo-Nazi assassins.

Demonstration called by: KEERFA (Movement United Against Racism and the Fascist Threat), Egyptian fishermen's lawyers in the Golden Dawn trial, Pakistani Community of Greece "Unity", Muslim Community of Greece, Egyptian Community, unions, and collectives.

The prosecutor's proposal in the Golden Dawn trial in support of acquitting the Golden Dawn neo-Nazis from the charge of running and joining a criminal organization is a scandalous concealment of neo-Nazis' murderous attacks. It is a pardon for their crimes.
It revealed the unbreakable and long-standing bonds of protection and immunity Golden Dawn receives by the state and it's access to the prosecution, the judiciary and the police.
But it has also brought to light the tactics of the New Democracy government itself, which is trying to bring Golden Dawn back into the political arena in conditions where it is openly playing the card of racism and "law and order."
The proposal to only condemn Rupakias (the murderer of Pavlos Fyssas) and acquit all of the assault squads and collaborators launched by the local Golden Dawn offices in Nikaia is a scandalous attempt to cover up the neo-Nazis' murderous activities.  It lets off the hook also the Golden Dawn leadership by disregarding the evidence of communications on the night of the Fyssas assassination between local Golden Dawn boss Lagos( now EMP)  and the leader of Golden Dawn Michaloliakos. Correspondingly, the prosecutor suggested that the neo-nazis should be let off lightly for the brutal and murderous attacks on the Egyptian fishermen by converting the charge of attempted homicide into serious intentional bodily harm! The same approach of downgrading of the charges was also followed regarding the murderous attacks on the communist trade unionists of PAME.

The possible adoption of the prosecution's proposal by the court will transform the trial into the largest white-washing of Nazi crimes since  the trial of Nuremberg. It will be a step in the legalization of murderous fascist violence and the scandalous cooperation of Golden Dawn and the Greek Police, paving the way for fascists to return to the streets again, taking advantage of the racist campaign of the New Democracy government.

The anti-fascist movement fought to bring Michaloliakos' neo-Nazis into the stand, to put an end to the onslaught of raids from their offices, we succeded to kick them out of the parliament. It is time to step up action to prevent the neo-Nazis from being let off lightly.
The major international mobilization on March 21 against racism and fascism is ahead. Until then, we will be constantly besieging the courthouse so they feel the rage and power of the great democratic majority, to shut down any attempt of the government and state apparatus to bring the nazis back to the streets and into the political life and so that the murderers go to jail.
We start on Saturday December 21st with immediate mobilizations and we will besiege the Court until the day of the conviction!

KEERFA – MOVEMENT “UNITED AGAINT RACISM AND THE FASCIST THREAT”
Pan-Hellenic Assembly and International Meeting Against Fascism and Racism
Athens, October 12 2019, Law School of Athens (Nomiki), Solonos str.

KEERFA 12 okt 2019 eng

The antifascist movement with its strength, persistence, long and systematic activity, managed to kick the neonazi murderers of Golden Dawn out of the Parliament, in the elections of July 7. Now, the members of Golden Dawn who are in trial, are making their final defending statements for their hideous crimes, the murder of Pavlos Fyssas and Shehzad Luqman, the racist and fascist attacks against immigrants, trade unionists and members of movements, no longer wearing the mantle of an elected political party, and with the prison’s door open and waiting.

We do not rest, before the internal crisis that Golden Dawn is facing. Instead, we escalate our actions, to make sure that they will not get off lightly, and that all their bases of operations, disguised as offices, will be closed down for good.

We move forward with demonstrations for the 6 years since the murder of Pavlos Fyssas, at Keratsini, on 18 September.

We continue with demonstrations at the courtrooms, on the day of Mihaloliakos’ defending statement, which must signal a moment of uprising in workspaces, schools and universities.

We turn our backs on the Prime Minister Mitsotakis, and the party of New Democracy, who pretend to be the castigators of Golden Dawn, and those who allegedly stopped their rise. They are those same who, with Foreign Minister Dendias’ racist policy, 2012’s “Xenios Zeus” operation, paved the way for them, while the police, and ND itself through their general secretary Baltakos, co-operated with them, and covered their crimes.

We have managed to destroy the machinations that covered them, and collide with racist policies, which continued during the time of SYRIZA-ANEL’s government, that materialized the disgraceful agreement between Turkey and the EU. Those racist policies, and with the nationalistic hysteria concerning Macedonia’s name, brought forward the fascist construct of Velopoulos’ party, which the antifascist movement is already taking action to isolate.

Furthermore, we are facing the battle against the escalation of racist offensives announced by Mitsotakis, Chrisichoidis (Minister of Citizen Protection) and Koumoutsakos (Alternate Citizen's Protection Minister for Migration). Those who want to fortify racist policies, by moving the Ministry for Migration to the Ministry of Public Order, as if to send a message that being a refugee or a migrant is a crime (but if you are rich, you can always buy a Golden Visa!).

They threaten to fill the country with concentration camps, such as Amygdaleza, unleash the sweeping operations of the Hellenic Police, seal the borders, and move forward with deportations, reinforcing the illegal deportations implemented by paramilitary groups operating at the border of Evros, by the fence of shame.

The antifascist movement that kicked the neo-Nazis out of the Parliament, along with the movement of solidarity to the refugees, has the power to ruin their plans. Through the international coordination of the movement, we showed that we can block their rise in Europe and the US. They never managed to turn Trump’s example to a triumphant rise of the far right, even though they made some threatening steps forward, in countries of Eastern Europe, in Italy and France. In Austria, the governing coalition with the far right fell apart. The outburst of solidarity towards Captain Carola Rakete, who insisted on rescuing the refugees, against those policies that turn the Mediterranean into a wet grave of women and children, also showed the movement’s power. March 16th’s International Day of Action showed us the possibilities of an international coordination of the movement.

United, we soldier on in the battle against the neo-Nazis of Golden Dawn, as the trial of Pavlos Fyssas’ and Shehzad Luqman’s murderers nears its end. It is time for them to go to jail, and for all their bases of operation to be closed down forever. In the battle to tear down the walls of the fortress Europe, the battle for open borders, asylum and housing for the refugees, for their access to schools and hospitals, and against the abolition of issuing of Social Security Numbers for them. The battle for equal rights for all migrants, against those who want them to live as slaves in every boss’s own Manolada.

The fight against fascism, racism, islamophobia, anti-Semitism and sexism is a priority for the workers and students’ movement, which is also facing austerity and government cuts, and aggressive “law and order” policies such as the abolition of the academic asylum.

We invite you to join and support the Pan-Hellenic Assembly and International Meeting, on October 12, in Athens. To send over delegates of your union, students’ organization, movement or collective. Already joining us are representatives from the USA, the UK, Germany, Spain, France, Cyprus and more. This will be a big step forward in the organization of the antifascist and antiracist movements, and the international coordination.

mihaloliakos xeiropedesKEERFA Press Release(Movement United Against Racism and the Fascist Threat):

Golden Dawn Finally out of Parliament and facing Prison's wide open doors!

Golden Dawn is finally out of parliament, with the prison doors facing them wide open! The expulsion of Golden Dawn from Parliament, after entering it in 2012, is a hopeful message with an international dimension. We are happy because this marks the beginning of the end of Golden Dawn, the "seeds of those who were defeated in 1945", (as the leader of Golden Dawn Mihaloliakos was recorded as referring to Golden Dawn in a meeting). It is a great victory for the massive, unified, persistent, long-lasting and systematic action of thousands of militants of the anti-fascist and anti-racist movement that led the Neo-Nazi suspects to complete isolation in the neighbourhoods all over the country. The struggle for the Golden Dawn trial to start and proceed, in order to prosecute the murderers of Pavlos Fyssas and Shahzad Luqman in order to find guilty all the paramilitary machinery, the leadership, and the executives of stormtroopers that mascarade as a "the political party". The trial's completion paves the way for ending the tolerance of the presence of the Golden Dawn fascists by the state and its mechanisms. There have been antifaXAsome great stations in this movement. The battles that were given in every neighborhood against the fascists and the racist attacks, against the pogroms on immigrants and refugees, the defense of the right of refugees to attend school, the struggle against the nationalist hysteria and the rallies over Macedonia, the struggle of POSPERT (Public Broadcast Workers Union) against giving a platform to the fascists in the media, the battle not to give in the municipal councils a platform for Golden Dawn, the international anti-fascist demonstrations on March 16th and on the anniversary of the assassination of Pavlos Fyssas every year. As well as the repeated demonstrations outside the Golden Dawn trial itself. KEERFA, ten years after it was founded, celebrates the smashing of the presence of Golden Dawn in Parliament. But we have to stress that there can be no complacency because we are not done with the fascist threat. We are not finished with Golden Dawn, nor with the fascistoid Velopulos who snuck into Parliament. But we are confident that we can smash them with a mass movement that will close all their offices that are being used as forts for the staging of attacks, from their central office at Mesogeion Avenue to the few remaining in some neighbourhoods. We have to confront the racist policies that have paved their way and the concentration camps. These policies stir up rage in Europe, while in the Mediterranean, Salvini prohibits ships rescuing refugees from docking in Italian ports and imprisons captains who save them.It is time to escalate the anti-fascist organizing to crush the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn killers. On March 16th, movements from 12 countries call for a global uprising to stop racism and fascists. We are outraged by the cruel crimes of the Trump and the EU governments against migrants and refugees who pave the way for the rise of fascists. That’s why will we flood the streets in Athens, Thessaloniki, New York, Berlin, London, Vienna, Paris, Barcelona,Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Warsaw, Istanbul, Nicosia.
On March 16th, we are demonstrating so that the Golden Dawn murderers will be jailed, to speed up their trial and to sentence them for life. The murder of the Albanian land worker Petrit Zilfe in Corfu confirms tragically that as long they are moving freely posing as patriots, they are a danger to everyone.
On March 16th, workers who struggle for hiring tens of thousands of new recruits, for making permanent the jobs of provisional contract staff in schools, municipalities and hospitals, for Collective Agreements everywhere, we are demonstrating so that we will not let refugees and migrants, part of the working class, be turned into scapegoats and to work without rights or to be closed in concentration camps and to be secluded in the islands. The migrants are not responsible for unemployment and poverty, but the bankers, the ship owners and the industrialists, for whose profits the governments imposed the memorandums. The imperialists are to blame - who bombed and destroyed their countries.
On March 16th, we are demonstrating in unity ,students, teachers and parents, all of whom have not allowed the Far-right and the Right to put up provocative nationalist occupations of hatred for the neighboring peoples in Albania, Macedonia and Turkey. In our schools the refugee children  are welcome and not neo-nazis, as are the struggles for public free education, not racism.
On March 16th, students who resist the dissolution of the public university by the laws and threats of Mitsotakis and Bakoyannis for the abolition of asylum, we will be on the streets with the banners of our unions and we will be demonstrating!
On March 16th, we are demonstrating along with migrant communities and refugees because for four years with the SYRIZA government we did not see any passage of legislation for the legalization of migrants - while on the contrary Amygdaleza and detention centers are full, refugees are secluded in open prisons-camps, deportations are being made by police at night in Evros, refugees are killed while persecuted by police in Egnatia highway. We are approaching elections with migrants always non-voting, their children awaiting citizenship, migrants from Pakistan not being able to get a certificate from the Hellenic Consulate in Islamabad - which thus blocks their every right! As for the first mosque, it will probably wait for even more years because the government are going in cahoots with the Church and Islamophobia is always rampant!
On March 16th, we are demonstrating for we do not forget that Zackie Kostopoulos' murder reminded us that the struggle to defend diversity and the conflict with sexism and the repression of LGBTQI, women and the disabled, is necessary to save lives and rights.
We call on trade unions, student unions, the Left and collectives in the neighborhoods, immigrant communities, the LGBTQI community, women's movements, disabled people's movements, the people of Letters and the Arts to be present with a loud voice in the global mobilization against racism and of fascism.
Time to smash the fascists, put an end to the Fortress-Europe!

Thousands rise in Germany, Italy, Austria, Britain not to let fascism pass and for the winning of solidarity with the refugees against the Fortress-Europe.
Together with this new hopeful movement, the anti-fascist movement in Greece showed the power that can crush the fascists. On September 15 and 18, thousands flooded the streets at the five years anniversary since the assassination of Pavlos Fissas, at the same time responding to the new EU racist agreements that adopt the Trump agenda but also claiming that the completion of the Golden Dawn trial will mean that neo-Nazi assassins will go to jail. Working people, students, migrants, refugees from the camps, artists, women and LGBTQI, along with KEERFA gave a potent presence in Syntagma square on 15 September. Now we have to discuss how we organize the follow-up.

The dashing entrance of the anti-fascist and anti-racist movement in Europe this summer over the challenges of neo-Nazis and the racist policies of governments has shown that there exists the power that can block their way so that we do not return to the nightmares of the prevalence of Nazism and fascism of the interwar era.
In Germany, 65,000 flooded the streets of Chemnitz to drive away the neo-Nazis. Together with the ones in Hamburg, Berlin and Frankfurt, thousands protest against Seehofer, Merkel's interior minister, who closes the border to refugees with outposts and detention centers.
In London, more than a million protesters declared Trump unwelcome, and undesirable racism, Islamophobia, sexism; then continued with a anti-fascist movement against fascists masked as "Democratic football fans", in reality fans of the fascist Robinson, who perform racist attacks.
In Austria, anti-fascists besieged EU ministers' meetings against closed borders, demanding that solidarity bridges be built - rather than walls.
In Italy, the far-right Interior Minister Salvini, who prevents the refugees' ships that are salvaged in the Mediterranean from docking in Italian ports, is being besieged by anti-racist protesters in one city after another. Together they are preparing a nationwide anti-fascist demonstration in Rome.

The International Meeting and the Pan-Hellenic Assembly on 13 October are a way to organize the battles together, coordinate them across Europe and scale them up. Golden Dawn, despite the isolation imposed by the trial for three and a half years, attempts with the mask of “Warrior for Macedonia” to escape the power of the movement. We have to continue the campaign for the trial-conviction, but also to prevent the neo-Nazis from engaging in attacks on our neighborhoods.
At the same time, we have to struggle to put an end to the disgrace of Moria at Lesvos and all the miserable EU agreements that turn the Mediterranean into a wet grave for thousands of refugees. We are struggling to open the borders, to bring all refugees to cities, to provide them with asylum, shelter, education and health.

We call on unions, student associations, grassroots movements, immigrant and refugee communities, movements of women, LGTBQI, disabled, on people of the arts and letters to support the International Meeting and the Pan-Hellenic Assembly.

Together we have the strength to win.

austehen gegen rassismusKEERFA - MOVEMENT UNITED AGAINST RACISM AND FASCIST THREAT

International Meeting and Pan-Hellenic Assembly against Fascism and Racism, Athens, October 13, 2018, Indoor Basketball Course at Rouf.

In Europe and America, the racist far right and the fascists are growing stronger because of the policies of governments that openly play the card of racism while continuing the policies of fierce austerity. The rise of Trump with the vulgar racist policies of child separation from mothers, the attack on Muslims, has inflated the fascist sails everywhere.

Governments turn migrants and refugees into scapegoats to escape their own responsibilities for their bankrupt recipes of austerity and imperialist interventions in the countries of Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Trump’s policies are now becoming EU policies. The EU's racist agreement on 28 June with the announcement of closed concentration camps, of "disembarking platforms" – floating prisons, of mass deportations, amounts to a disorderly retreat by traditional parties to far right pressures.

The far right has greater potential as it is in ministries in the governments of Italy and Austria, it is the main opposition in Germany, while defining the policies of the governments of East Europe. Fortress Europe turns the Mediterranean into a water graveyard for thousands of refugees trying to escape from wars, poverty and oppression.

Such retreats effectively accelerate the rise of the far right and fascists rather than stem it. It is urgent to strengthen resistance and coordinate it across Europe and internationally to stop the threat of fascism and the new racist campaign in Europe that grows it.

It is hopeful that new mass movements against racism and fascism are growing everywhere, as in Germany, Austria, France, Britain, Italy and the USA. Thousands protest against Trump, fascists and racists in every corner of Europe and the United States.

The international day of action on 17 March 2018 showed the potential for international coordination of the movement.

The struggle against the neonazis of Golden Dawn, who, encouraged by the nationalist rallies on Macedonia, threatened with a coup from the podium of the Parliament, escalates as the culmination of the trial of the murderers of Pavlos Fyssas and Shahzat Luqman approaches. It is time to put them to jail, to shut down all their offices-lairs!

The struggle to tear down the walls of the Fortress Europe, for open borders for the victimized, for asylum and shelter for refugees, to repel Islamophobia, antisemitism, sexism, is a priority for the workers and youth movement that fight against austerity and cuts.

We invite you to participate and support the International Meeting and the Pan-Hellenic Assembly on 13 October in Athens. It is a big step forward in organizing antifascist and antiracist mobilizations and in international coordination.

17/3 INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST RACISM AND FASCISM
We Demonstrate!

IN GREECE AND ALL OVER THE PLANET
ATHENS Omonia 3pm

• CLOSE DOWN THE OFFICES OF GOLDEN DAWN
• CONVICT AND IMPRISON THE MURDERERS
• REPEAL THE EU-TURKEY-LIBYA RACIST AGREEMENTS
• CLOSE DOWN THE CONCENTRATION CAMPS
• OPEN THE BORDERS, REFUGEES ARE WELCOME
Rise-up across Europe to block the ascent of the fascist threat and racism!
On March 17, workers and youth, refugees and immigrants, are preparing to flood the streets in Britain, Austria, France, Germany, Poland, Cyprus, Turkey, Denmark, the Netherlands to send the message of resistance against the Fortress-Europe that brought fascists to the fore.

We too, go ahead with all of them! We put a barrier to the ascent of the fascists, forcing the Golden Dawn at the trial to apologize for their murders, demanding that their officesin our neighborhoods -bases for their raids- be closed, building solidarity with refugees and immigrants to break their isolation in the islands, and to welcome them into open cities.
The ascent of the Far-Right and fascists in Europe was born out of the racist policies of governments. This is how the Far Right has come to participate in the Austrian government, Lepen to pass into the second round of presidential elections in France and the racist Alternative For Germany to enter the parliament (Bundestag).

EU governments have closed the borders via the agreements with Turkey and Libya and have opened concentration camps from the Aegean Islands to the deserts of Libya, where even slave markets of immigrants have sprung up! More than three thousand drowned in the icy waters of the Mediterranean in 2017. The Muslims were turned into scapegoats by governments in order to break up resistance to policies of wild austerity and to support brutal imperialist interventions in Asia, Middle East, Africa. Tramp in the United States gave impetus to the Far Right by playing openly the card of Islamophobia and sexism.

Still, the resistance continues! We can stop the fascists and overturn the racist EU-Fortress policies. The Golden Dawn does not manage to take-off in Greece, despite the frustration caused by the government’s compromises with the Troikans and Trump, just because a massive united anti-fascist movement is blocking this road. A whole lot of people are indignant with the Mouzalas and government politicies, but it is turning its back on the New Democracy party, the Far Right and the Mayors, who are blatantly supporting them, aiming to persecute the refugees, to effect mass expulsions to Erdogan’s Turkey.

In 2017, thousands took part in massive rallies on March 18th and then in a massive march on 9 April to close the Neo-Nazi offices –bases for raid-after the assaultto assassinate student Alexis Lazaris. Four years since the assassination of PavlosFyssas, on September 16th, thousands marched again to the neo-Nazi headquarters along with hundreds of immigrants, angry for the massacres of Rohingyapeople in Myanmar.

We call on workers, students in the universities and second level schools, trade unions, migrant communities, solidarity movements for refugees, municipal grassroots movements, alltomassively mobilizeso as to make the 17th March a milestone to bring an end to the threat of fascism and to racist policies. Let’s pave the way for a Europe without neo-Nazis and racism!
